After reading the BBC series, “Till Death Do Us Part,” in the late 1960’s Norman Lear bought the rights. Based on Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell), a working-class conservative living with his wife, daughter, and liberal son-in-law. With opinions on just about everything, Alf was vocal in his dislike of Catholics, Americans, homosexuals, and anyone else who was “different” than him.
